Wild broodstock provided by local fishermen in the “honeymoon tanks” at the UNH Coastal Marine Lab.

meet the parents

Our goal is to ensure that the genetic makeup of released fish is representative of the wild population. For this reason, all flounder released as part of this program are the offspring of wild broodstock, caught each year by local commercial fishermen and kept at the UNH Coastal Marine Lab. This practice eliminates potential problems associated with maintaining captive broodstock, such as inbreeding or loss of wild genotype.
