Unlike inshore farms that rely on floating rafts or surface lines, these farms are located miles offshore on submerged long lines, out of sight and safely beneath boat traffic. Site selection is key to the farm’s success. The first commercial farm to benefit through this technology is located off the coast of Hampton, N.H. This site was selected by engaging local and regional stakeholders.

Andy Lang, a local fisherman, is the proprietor of the farm. He took over the licenses obtained by the Portsmouth fishermen cooperative in 2005.
