Figure 1. Feed Hose Load Cell. This load cell measures the tension in the feed hose/mooring system of the smaller feed buoy. The hole in the middle allows feed to freely pass through to the hose and fish cage. The load cell is mounted on the bottom of the buoy, and the feed hose attaches to it. An underwater matable connector (at 11 o’clock) brings power from the feed buoy and sends signals back to the buoy. The bright spots at 2, 5, and 8 o’clock, are covers for the strain gauge amplifiers so the signals sent through connector into the buoy are in the volt range, rather than the standard strain gauge millivolt output. This reduces noise effects due to the equipment in the buoy.
