The next task was to characterize the output of the device in a facility with substantial ambient noise. The use of the Center for Ocean Engineering test tank was a convenient location. To record the ambient noise and the generated signal, a hydrophone (labeled "H" on Figure 8) was placed 16.5 feet from the conditioning device source (labeled "P" on Figure 8) connected to a filter, amplifier, oscilloscope and a data acquisition computer, as shown on Figure 8.
