Raising the Main Line
The crew brings up a main line from on of the four longlines that were installed in fall 2004. Each longline supports 1,600 feet of growing rope, suspended in continuous loops from the main line. The main line is submerged to a depth of 40 feet, and anchored to the sea floor by granite blocks. Each farm is permitted for three more growing lines. The two farms working at full capacity under this design would have ten lines, capable of producing 120,000 pounds annually.
