Stability. Room. Safety. Automation. Many of the features that attract young families to minivans are desirable for an offshore fish feed delivery system. Working with Net Systems, Inc.—which received a $200,000 grant from NOAA’s Small Business Innovative Research program—Project engineers are finalizing the development of an automated feeder designed with these considerations in mind. Shaped like a giant pillbox, the buoy will be capable of storing up to 20 tons of feed in four internal silos. The top half, which rides above the waterline, will be loaded with operating machinery.
